During IFFR the audience is invited to attend and participate in Spirit Strategies, a series of public ritual performances in the installation G/D Thyself. On 28 January with Krump dance performer The Empress (Aissa Traore).
Before she was The Empress, she was a warrior.
"Dutch female krump dancer professionally known as The Empress. The Empress is on her journey of Spirit Strategy On Raising Free Black Children because starts with herself. The motherland Africa has planted seeds such as The Empress into the world. The Empress is part of the Free Black Children of today, yet her ancestors had to fight a great battle of breaking the chains around their necks. The Empress comes from a lineage of warriors and she demonstrates the journey of being captivated into becoming the Free Black Child through her dance movement. Her spirit is untamed, raw, unapologetic yet so poised, emotional and filled with passion. This female ruler fights hard to grant the freedom to all her people through the dance style Krump. Her spirit speaks volumes."
