The latest Live from G/D THYSELF event features a virtual dance workshop by The Empress. Join her for We Travel Through the Dance Spirit of Time.
You are invited to join Live From G/D Thyself, a series of public ritual performances and workshops recorded and streamed from the installation by The Ummah Chroma in Het Nieuwe Instituut. Taking place on 19 June, from 11am to 12 noon, the latest event in the series features a virtual dance workshop by The Empress.
"Movement can actually bring you back to life."
Dutch krump and afro dancer The Empress knows her stuff. In this theatrical dance workshop, she will take you through several different musical eras and through dance steps from old school to the new school: funk, 1990s street dance, hiphop - you name it, we'll (virtually) do it together!
Join the journey with The Empress and let's shake it all out! This class is for beginners, but it will definitely be a workout!
Aissa Traore, professionally known as The Empress (formerly Lady Tchozn), is a Dutch krump dancer, actor and model. Born and raised in Amsterdam, the self-taught dancer quickly climbed her way to the number-one spot for women's krump dancing in the Dutch street dance scene.
She went on to win the krump style division of the international Warriors Krumpgame competition in Switzerland and also took first place at the prestigious international street dance competition UDO World Championship in Edinburgh, Scotland. On top of that, together with her dance partner Tchozn she won first place at the European Next Step competition. Not long after that she was asked to join the world's biggest dance platform, DanceOn. This platform, with a minimum reach of 27,000 views per item, released two of her dance videos.
All the performances and workshops will be offered as an active Zoom meeting (limited places available) and as a livestream on Het Nieuwe Instituut Online.
Every other week, the installation is open to our communities to use as a ritual space for whatever spirit strategies they want to execute and share with our audiences. If you would like to use the space, please apply for a time slot by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
