Join us on Saturday 22 August for an evening of performances as part of the closing event for the installation, G/D THYSELF: Spirit Strategy On Raising Free Black Children, by international artists’ collective The Ummah Chroma.

As part of the YouthDem programme, five young filmmakers, artists and musicians from Rotterdam worked in collaboration with Concrete Blossom and Het Nieuwe Instituut. They made two short films exploring the tension between rituals and identity formation in the Western world. The films If The Walls Could Speak and Big Man will premiere during this afternoon.

In this week’s edition of Live from G/D THYSELF, The Ummah Chroma’s installation in Het Nieuwe Instituut is open to our communities as a ritual space for them to perform their own spirit strategies.

During IFFR the audience is invited to attend and participate in Spirit Strategies, a series of public ritual performances in the installation G/D Thyself. On 31 January with with visual and performance artist Nash Caldera.

Rooted in music, this programme brings the shared vision of The Ummah Chroma together, both in their collective and individual work.

Sacred Beings is a themed programme exploring contemporary non-Western queer culture, curated by IFFR’s first Young Curator. Darunee Terdtoontaveedej. At the heart of this multidisciplinary programme is an installation that brings together the documentary photography by New Zealand-based academic Sharyn Davies, the portraits shot by Thai photographer Watsamon Tri-yasakda and a short film by Thai artist and filmmaker Sarnt Utamachote.
